Event Description

Two of contemporary Japan’s most provocative photographers join us for a public workshop discussing recent work and the future of photography after the digital. With the recent publication of his translated essays in Beta Exercise: The Theory and Practice of Osamu Kanemura, Kanemura continues to advance his work and thinking along the cutting edges of analog and digital modes of image making. Komatsu’s award-winning large-scale gallery installations and hand-made photobooks, meanwhile, explore the vital materiality of photographic images in a context of the increasing dematerialization of images. This workshop will be conducted mostly in Japanese with limited interpretation, however, all with an interest in the expansion of photography’s critical modalities are welcome.
