My name is Calvin Van Zytveld and I'm from Grand Rapids, Michigan. I'm a senior at Princeton University majoring in music. I study cello with Alberto Parrini, baroque cello with Sarah Cunningham, and composition with Steven Mackey and Ninfea Cruttwell-Reade. This fall, the Princeton University Orchestra (of which I am a member) premiered one of my compositions. In past summers, I attended Meadowmount School of Music, Music at Port Milford, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. My weeks at the Shanghai Peking Opera Company Summer Immersion Program are cherished memories, and gave me new appreciation for Chinese art and culture. The program made me fall in love with opera as an art form all over again. Now, I'm hard at work on my thesis: an opera!
