My name is Teresa and I am a senior in the Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering department pursuing certificates in Sustainable Energy, Technology and Society, and East Asian Studies! On campus I dance with Black Arts Company: Dance and Naacho South Asian Dance Company. I also work at the Women*s Center, write for the University's Admissions Blog, and do really interesting research on Chinese Politics in the Politics and Sociology departments! During my time at Princeton I have participated in some really cool study abroad programs but SPOC has definitely been one of my favorites! During my time in Shanghai I chose to learn the double sword dance scene in 'Farewell My Concubine'. I think this dance allowed to understand myself much better as a dancer and performer, and I enjoyed thinking about what it means to more intentionally perform as a woman through the tradition stablished by cross-dressed men, as well as learning more about what ‘beauty’ or ‘strength’ mean in Peking Opera and Chinese traditional culture.
